WASSA Member Benefits
The Western Association of Summer Session Administrators (WASSA) offers several venues to promote the exchange of information about summer session programs and administrative practices.
- Annual Conference
- Collegial Networking
- Committee Involvement
- Grants - Institutional & Internship Support
- Grants - Research (Theresa Neil Memorial Fund)
- Membership Director & List-serv
- Resources (e.g. newsletter, WASSA mine, summer session related articles and much more!)
- Summer Academe
The annual conference
(aka: meeting), with its lively discussion of practices, procedures, experiences, innovations, predictions, proposals, plans, and presentations, is the principle forum for exchange. Members consider this conference to be essential for institutional development and professional growth.
The most valuable benefit of WASSA is the collegiality and professional support spawned by the networking opportunities presented at the annual conferences.
A vast array of committees
exist for you to participate as a contributing member of the organization, while also providing opportunities to connect and learn first-hand with colleagues, as well as leadership and mentorship interactions. Each year, as a part of the annual conference, members submit for awards in the categories of programs, print media, marketing and websites.
WASSA has two professional development grant
opportunities...the Internship Grant
provides support for a WASSA member to visit another member institution, and the Institutional Support Grant
provides support to a member institution to bring in a WASSA expert for staff development.
The Theresa Neil Memorial Research Fund
is sponsored by the Summer Session Research Consortium and supports research that addresses pedagogical or administrative issues pertaining to summer session within colleges and universities.
The WASSA membership directory i
s a helpful resource for connecting with members. It provides the means to search for other WASSA members in a variety of way, either by institutions, last name or location. WASSA also provides a way for members to reach out to other WASSA members by using the WASSA list-serv
by connecting with the WASSA webmaster for assistance.
The association provides a variety of resources
to members, such as a periodic e-newsletter
to inform members of changes in personnel, professional development activities, research findings, and other pertinent news. It supports the WASSA Mine
, which is a monthly email correspondence in which a particular question is posed by the head WASSA Miner and participating members respond (reply all) to the question with their insights of the answer. In the end, the answers are collected and summarized into one document and used as a resource for other members to refer. To participate, submit your WASSA Mine participation request here
The association also provides information on best practices, keeps members up to date on committee activity, gives conference highlights and updates on future conference planning, and informs members of any business of the association.
, is a professional journal published jointly by NAASS, AUSS, NCCSS and WASSA.
